Karting tips post: Braking, Slowing down to going quicker ("Braking for dummies")

OK, so even I was confused writing that title, but fear not, I know what I speak off... kinda?? regardless I shall try and share what knowledge I think I have and here comes some braking and karting tips flying at yo faces! For all you advanced folk keep your faces in the WandiSport direction for some tips on Trail braking.

So you wanna look all fly and shizz locking your brakes just before you turn? and you may have seen me do it at hooton in my latest vid, if not make sure to check it out, if not for the karting then do it for pendulum's TARANTULA (the music in the background)
Truth is it aint all about lookin' fly. in fact locking up is a very unefficent form of braking. I could explain the physics behind it but id much rather you took my word for it, later on in your racing adventures you will learn "Trail braking" which includes a little bit of locking up.

Fitness post: Diet and fitness plan

As promised the diet, It consists of 5 meals, now I cant take any credit for this, I read a large number of fitness and diet plans and this is somewhat of a cocktail of them all, i use information from people such as Scooby, Mike Chang and Arnel Ricafranca.

Meal 1
2 eggs (only egg whites) and chopped broccoli
Glass of skimmed milk

Meal 2
1 Apple
1 Banana

Meal 3
1 Large salmon (For vegetarians take 2 handfulls of frozen veg and microwave, then mix with some red spaghetti sauce)
4 Small boiled potatoes

Meal 4 (Post work-out)
1 Whey protein shake (Drink during work-out, Finish after)
1 Banana

Meal 5
1 egg white with broccoli

Now for a few tips,
1. Keep hydrated, Drink plenty of water
2. Don't add sugar and milk to your tea or coffee
3. Don't drink and fizzy drinks.

The Work-outs consists of mainly Interval training, DON'T DO THIS IN THE MORNING Mike Chang here will explain that fast cardio in the morning burns muscle not fat, this you want to do about 4 or 5 o'clock after you get home from school/college/work

Mike Chang's video:

(I would recommend doing what he says in the mornings)

So Week 1 would be 20 mins of running:

Warm up for a slow jog for 4 mins
Sprint as fast as you can for 1 min 9/10 intensity
Jog at medium 5/10 intensity for 4 mins
Sprint as fast as you can for 1 min 9/10 intensity Etc

I do this for 20 mins, then after 1 week I increase the work out time to 22 mins (each week by 2 mins) and the time I sprint increases by 10 seconds each week.

Good luck, feel free to leave a comment with any questions.

F1 and Karting: Fitness and Health in motorsport

Karting gets you fit? Nope, other way round! you should be fit for karting. Actually allow me to amend that statement as it implies only fit people can race, that is not true, ill be proof of that, ill change my statement to Karting should encourage you to become fit.

I can be proof of this as only until very recently i cared very little about what went down my gullet, i was unhealthy on a whole other level, but now i follow a strict(ish) diet and exercise programme (which i shall share in my next post next week) and in 2 weeks have lost 6kgs.

So why does this benefit you in a sport where all you do is sit down and push some pedals? becouse karting is much more than that (motorsport in general infact), driving is very much like golf, seems pointless to viewers but those who participate hunger for perfection, the perfect corner, then lap, then race, then technique i could go on. And karting is hard, you may think you can get away with not caring about your health an perhaps you can... for 1 lap!! (Click read more for full Post)
